What you should know about the Prostate Gland

The Prostate Gland is located about halfway between the testicles and rectum
and surrounds part of the urethra (the outlet that discharges urine and semen from the penis).

Imagine a pipe passing through the hole of a donut.
The pipe is the urethra and the doughnut is the prostate.

Many prostate gland problems are caused by clogged pipes. The largest pipe is the urethra.
Smaller pipes (acini) produce fluid which is added to semen during ejaculation.
The ejaculate is forced out of the prostate and into the urethra.

Imagine you are inside the pipe looking around toward the donut (prostate).
You would see smaller pipes that drain into the larger pipe.

When the smaller pipes (acini) become plugged, the result is a swollen prostate acinus.
The prostate gland swells and can become the size of a small orange.
A healthy prostate gland is about the size of a walnut.

I believe that our high fat diet causes fatty deposits in the pipes of the prostate gland.
The gradual buildup of deposits over the years results in the swelling.

A swollen prostate may also be referred to as an enlarged prostate.
Regardless of the term used, we are referring to an unhealthy prostate gland.
The condition is known as Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia.

You need a healthy prostate gland to urinate efficiently and also to have an erection.
When the prostate gland swells it puts pressure on the urethra (the largest pipe),
and makes the passage of urine more difficult.

The swollen prostate also puts pressure on the nerves responsible for an erection
(the erection nerves pass over and are attached to the outside of the prostate gland)
and makes them less sensitive, and therefore, an erection difficult, or even impossible.
